| Note* | | Margaretha is the matriarch of the Weigold family in America, but was better known as Bertha. She was christened Margaretha on 21 July 1854 in Coburg, but used the name of Bertha, at least after her marriage. Her name is given as Bernardina on her marriage certificate recorded in New York on 15 May 1873.
THE WEIGOLD FAMILY RECORD indicates that Bertha was born in Thuringen, Coburg. In the 1880 census, she claims she was born in Saxony, as were both of her parents. Her marriage certificate states that she was born in Sax-Coburg. However, her birth record has been found in the city of Coburg, which was in the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha at that time. Today, it is in the German state of Bavaria.
In the 1900 census, she claims she immigrated to the U.S. in 1874, but that can't be right, since her marriage certificate was recorded in New York City in 1873. She actually arrived in New York on 18 Sep 1869 on the ship 'Weser' from Bremen, when she gave her age as 22 yrs.
Bertha is buried in the family plot in the South Cemetery, in Tolland Connecticut.
