Johann Bernhard's death record (21 May 1833) indicates that he was 80 years old at the time of his death, placing the time of his birth sometime during the year prior to May 1753. He married Maria Elisabetha Eckhard, daughter of Johann Nickel Eckhard and Maria Dorothea Winkroft, on 12 July 1774 at Odenbach, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany; Marriage was recorded in the Odenbach Reformed Church Marriage Register; Date: 12 Jul 1774; Groom: Johann Bernhard Cöster (Father: Julius Christian Cöster, Schuldiener of Odenbach); Bride: Maria Elisabetha Eckhard (Father: Nickol Eckhard, Müller of Dillkirchen). Johann Bernhard Cöster married Maria Elisabetha Oster, daughter of Johann Jacob Oster and Anna Catharina Ernd, circa 1775; The marriage record of Maria Elisabetha to Johann Bernhard Cöster has not been found, nor has the death record (if there is one) of Johann Bernhard's first wife, Maria Elisabetha Eckhard. However, the birth record of Johann's first child, Julius Christian, states that the mother's parents were Jacob and Catharina Oster.

In addition, Johann Bernhard's death record states that he was the widower of Maria Elisabetha Oster.

Therefore, it is assumed that Maria Eckhard died sometime after her marriage to Johann on 7 Dec 1774 and Johann then married Maria Elisabetha Oster prior to the birth of their son, Julius, on 7 Aug 1776. Johann Bernhard Cöster died on 18 May 1833 at Odenbach, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, at age 80; Death was recorded in the Reform Church Registry at Odenbach; Page 198, No. 11; Date : 18 May 1833; Name: Bernhard Cöster, age: 80 of Odenbach, Widower of Maria Elisabeth Oster. He was buried on 21 May 1833 at Odenbach, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany; Johann Bernhard's death record indicates that he was buried on 21 May 1833.
     Johann Bernhard Cöster's LDS Familysearch Family Tree ID is: L8R7-F92. At the birth of Bernhard's first Child, Julius Christian, the record indicated that the parents of the mother were witnesses.

These witnesses were listed as Jacob and Catharina Oster; I considered this information as erroneous at first since the only marriage record found so far shows Johann Bernhard Cöster marrying Maria Elisabetha Eckhard.

However, because there is no other explanation, I am now convinced that Maria Elisabetha Oster is the mother of all of Bernhard's children. He was a "Schulvikar" or school curate.

His actual death record has not yet been found.
     Information received from Donald Coester of Pittsburgh, PA indicated that Johann Christian's father, Johann Heinrich, was was born in Meisenheim and was a Reform Minister at the church at Odernheim at the time of the birth of most of his children. Researching the LDS microfilm from Odernheim uncovered many of these records.

Since Heinrich was the minister at the church and the one making the entry into the records, he chose not to include last names, but simply entered the childs name as the child of "mine and my wife Maria Antonia". Sometimes he even neglecting to put his wife's name.
